How to Find Your Phone Number After Inserting a New SIM
On this page:
Why your number might be missing
After inserting a new or travel SIM, your phone’s “My number” field can be blank or outdated. Common reasons include:
- Carrier records not propagated yet. Number provisioning may lag a few minutes to hours.
- Dual-SIM quirks. Some devices only display one line’s number until a reboot.
- MVNO / prepaid behavior. Some carriers do not pre-write the MSISDN into SIM metadata.
- Software caching. The OS may cache an old value until an SMS/call is made.
Quick ways to check your number
- Phone settings: Settings → About phone → SIM status. If it shows “Unknown,” try sending an SMS or rebooting.
- Carrier short codes: Some networks reply to
*#100#(or similar) with your number. - Call a friend or second phone: Their screen will show your number if caller ID is allowed.
Short codes vary by carrier and country and may not work on all networks.

FAQ & troubleshooting
SMS sent but no result?
International SMS can be delayed. Resend the code with a small change (e.g., add one character), or try from another SIM if available.
Does it cost anything?
Receiving is free on our side. Your carrier may charge a standard SMS fee for sending the message.
Is my data stored?
We process the SMS only to display your number and purge logs regularly. See our Privacy Policy.
Works without mobile data?
Yes. Only SMS is required to send the code; viewing the result page needs data/Wi-Fi.
